Resistance: Lenten Journey in Poems Day 5

Walking in the marketplace, I notice those around me.

What of their lives, triumphs, failures, sadness, joy.

My life is selfish, wanting my own consolations and rewards,

but of others around me. Do I notice them at all?

Am I thick with the resistance of noticing?

So self-centered, parading around like a self-reflecting mirror,

Only interested in others good perceptions of me

and the image I project.

The one I want to see.

Genesis

“The LORD God formed man out of the clay of the ground
and blew into his nostrils the breath of life,
and so man became a living being.”

Saving up my Sweetness: Lent Day 4

Saving sweetness for those we know but a little,

is a falsehood and fake smile which draws us from peace and love.

Remember the internal knots your make each time it happens,

how they quickly become a tangle no-one can undo.

Save freewill surrender to God.

Isaiah

“If you remove from your midst oppression,
false accusation and malicious speech;
If you bestow your bread on the hungry
and satisfy the afflicted;
Then light shall rise for you in the darkness,
and the gloom shall become for you like midday;”

Taking the Biscuit: Lent Day 2

Just decided to stay off the cookies for Lent,

congratulations; then suddenly

a whole range of cookies appear as a gift from someone I can never refuse

coconut, chocolate, mints,

all made by a charity.

Do I take the biscuit? Lent is already a challenge.
