Openings … The Gift Horse

“Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth”

My mother used to say,

But I think that she did. Carefully examining the motive

of all horses.

So they might not carry her away to some town and destroy her life.

“Behold, I am sending you like sheep in the midst of wolves;
so be shrewd as serpents and simple as doves.”

Gospel of Matthew

Openings … Sorrow

The word can make you lament for past acts or words.

those which hurt others for no good reason,

is there ever a good reason?

Let me feel sorrow for those I have wronged.

And enjoy forgiveness received and yet to come.

“As you enter a house, wish it peace.”

Gospel of Matthew

Openings …. A Thirsty summer day

Do you remember what it was to be very thirsty,

Where no liquid but water could quench it?

The way your body started to slow down, decisions became irritable and

you wanted to be somewhere cool, alone and with ice cold water.

The soul cries out for nourishment, notice God for one minute and you have prayed.

“Give thanks to the LORD on the harp;
with the ten-stringed lyre chant his praises.
Sing to him a new song;
pluck the strings skillfully, with shouts of gladness.”

Psalms
