I know the mother was the mover in this scripture, but for some reason, I thought it was the girl. Perhaps I didn’t study the scripture accurately in the past. It shows how others see themselves above the law and how God’s law (not to marry your brother’s wife) was to be interpreted. In this case I am above the law. No-one is above the law, and we will have to atone for our sins when the time comes.
Scripture meditation for the Daily Gospel
REFLECTION ON THE DAILY GOSPEL 2 FEBRUARY 2012
Mary and Joseph recognized the Jewish law of the time to bring an offering to the temple in accordance with the tradition. They recognized the importance of the tradition when raising Jesus amongst his chosen people. This was perhaps the first time he was recognized as the Anointed One. Two thousand years later, we still have to ensure that others recognize him, that is our mission now.
REFLECTION ON THE DAILY GOSPEL 1 FEBRUARY 2012
Jesus must have been in amazement when he saw his promised people, about to be rescued from their own sin by Him, rejected in this way. How disappointed he must have felt that they did not love God enough to even be open enough for his message.
