Openings … Addition and Division

Do you divide family and friends …

Into men and women, girls and boys,

close friends, acquaintances, colleagues,

those to keep at a distance, even enemies?

Are we better served by addition versus subtraction; multiplication instead of division.

Someone told him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside,
asking to speak with you.”

Gospel Mt 11:16-19

How little have things changed. There are still many who do not hear his message. Jesus came amongst us as a Man and as the Son of God. Fully divine and fully human. During his ministry he was persecuted, for redefining the Law and embracing the sinners of the time. He changes many hearts, but each heart still has a soul; that soul has free will and can decide to accept or reject; be open or closed; have faith or none. Perhaps our first step is just to listen a little. To the beauty of the world around us; to those we love; our family and friends; the blessings we have received. Then perhaps, when we are still enough we may hear Him call us. “Be still and know that I am God.”

REFLECTION ON THE DAILY GOSPEL 25 JULY 2012

It’s a challenge to be a martyr in the truest sense of the word. Really putting yourself second is difficult; God first, family and friends second. It’s easy to say, not so easy to do. How many times have you come second to another today?
