REFLECTION ON THE DAILY GOSPEL 25 SEPTEMBER 2012

Gospel Lk 8:19-21

Hearing and acting. Acting and hearing. We hear the words often “What would Jesus have us do in this situation?” This can be very irritating if spoke out loud, like a Pharisee declaring.

“Look at me a holy man, I invoke God’s word to proclaim my own deeds”.

Rather, listen carefully to the situation at hand; with your heart not your ears. Then decide the action through God’s grace, operating in your heart and mind. Then you will see the words of today’s Gospel come to life. Quietly but with unfathomable transformative power.

Wisdom is a personalized attribute of God. Those who hear his message above the noise of protesters will be blessed by Him. How often do we have to “tune out” the noise of protestation to hear His message. The sound of silence and quietness in our souls is a truly blessed moment.

When faith is present, God delivers in abundance. Then many are surprised by the results, when abundance can cause danger or make life difficult. Jesus tells them once again … “Do not be afraid” words he used many times in His ministry.
