REFLECTION ON THE DAILY GOSPEL 5 SEPTEMBER 2011

Man made temples and traditions that keep the powerful in power on earth are meaningless if they do not follow God’s rules.

Jesus shows the Pharisees they cannot contain his power, or when it should be exercised purely by following their rules. They don’t just deny his power, but activity plot how they can hurt Jesus to stop him undermining their own earthly power.

Jesus teaches us what we do is more important than what day we do it on. He also encourages us to take action in adversity, when our true colors will shine through.

REFLECTION ON THE DAILY GOSPEL 1 SEPTEMBER 2011

Simon follows the instructions to put out into deep water. He makes the point that he has already failed to catch fish earlier in the day, but follows Jesus’s instructions anyway.

How many times do we question the call of God to “put out into deep water”. ?

Jesus tells us “Do not be afraid”, for he is with us at all times.

Our faith must guide us and become stronger if we are to do his work. He wants us to be catching men not just the fish in this miracle.

REFLECTION ON THE DAILY GOSPEL 31 AUGUST 2011

Jesus calls us to holiness. His example of performing miracles by driving out sickness and evil from others shows his divinity and absolute power over the forces of darkness.

Bringing others from this darkness into the light is our mission. We must proclaim the good news as his disciples. As soon as Simon’s mother-in-law was cured she immediately went to work attending to others in need.

When God gives us a gift we MUST use it to good effect. I pray today that I might do this work for his pleasure and glory. Thank you for all the gifts in my life.
