Mary and Joseph recognized the Jewish law of the time to bring an offering to the temple in accordance with the tradition. They recognized the importance of the tradition when raising Jesus amongst his chosen people. This was perhaps the first time he was recognized as the Anointed One. Two thousand years later, we still have to ensure that others recognize him, that is our mission now.

Jesus must have been in amazement when he saw his promised people, about to be rescued from their own sin by Him, rejected in this way. How disappointed he must have felt that they did not love God enough to even be open enough for his message.

There are many temptations in the world and many are taken with them. While this man represents the many demons (a Roman Legion full of them), there are more than 6,000 temptations facing us, we need to drive them away, just as Jesus did, and send them to their death. For sin is death.
