REFLECTION ON THE DAILY GOSPEL 18 SEPTEMBER 2012

This reading has so much of the divine power of God, manifested in the Son of Man, Jesus Christ it is hard to decipher all the meanings. The loss of a son was not just a maternal loss, but a terrible financial one, as this would have been the only means of support for a widow. Jesus touches the coffin, a taboo under Jewish Law of the time; just His touch is enough to breathe life back into the woman’s son. He breaks a law to show a new law. That of love and compassion to those in most need, all you have to do is ask.

Gospel Lk 7:11-17

REFLECTION ON THE DAILY GOSPEL 2 FEBRUARY 2012

Mary and Joseph recognized the Jewish law of the time to bring an offering to the temple in accordance with the tradition. They recognized the importance of the tradition when raising Jesus amongst his chosen people. This was perhaps the first time he was recognized as the Anointed One. Two thousand years later, we still have to ensure that others recognize him, that is our mission now.
