So God became man incarnate through these generations fulfilling the prophetic words of the Old Testament. Behold the Son of Man.

The apostles were witnesses then, just as we are called to be witnesses now of his love and revelation to us all.

Reflection on the Daily Gospel
Jesus could see what was coming. That he was going to be rejected by the Chosen People, the ones he had shepherded faithfully through the ages of the Old Testament.
He foresaw the destruction of the temple and the was mourning the loss of their love, and warned them of what was coming. We must also not believe that we can just go through life ignoring him or his work.
Rather we must prepare ourselves to be with in heaven him in eternity or we will destroy ourselves.
