REFLECTION ON THE DAILY GOSPEL 9 FEBRUARY 2013

Jesus’s heart was moved when so many came to hear what He had to say. Can you imagine yourself being a part of this crowd, waiting patiently to hear The Word? It must have been an amazing experience, one that we can relive through scripture.

John-the-Baptist

I have had the privilege to be the “best man” on a couple of occasions. The metaphor John uses in the scripture today is a really beautiful one.

We stand before God in awe of his work around us every day, and have been chosen to introduce Him to others. In John’s case it was preaching and baptism, bringing others into communion with Him for their entire lives. Let us try and renew that commitment today during each hour of the day, rejoicing in his love and blessings.

Gospel Mt 11:11-15

John was the prototype of what Jesus wanted us to be. He paved the way for Christ. I wonder if John and Jesus played together as children. As Elizabeth and Mary were cousins perhaps they did. There is no scripture to support this. In this Advent time, we can prepare ourselves for the coming of the savior, a truly wonderful time of the year.

Let us imagine ourselves in this scene above, hearing John’s words of the coming of a savior, listening attentively as Jesus tell us to in the Gospel today.
“Whoever has ears ought to hear.”
