REFLECTION ON THE DAILY GOSPEL 14 DECEMBER 2012

Gospel Mt 11:16-19

How little have things changed. There are still many who do not hear his message. Jesus came amongst us as a Man and as the Son of God. Fully divine and fully human. During his ministry he was persecuted, for redefining the Law and embracing the sinners of the time. He changes many hearts, but each heart still has a soul; that soul has free will and can decide to accept or reject; be open or closed; have faith or none. Perhaps our first step is just to listen a little. To the beauty of the world around us; to those we love; our family and friends; the blessings we have received. Then perhaps, when we are still enough we may hear Him call us. “Be still and know that I am God.”

Gospel Mt 11:11-15

John was the prototype of what Jesus wanted us to be. He paved the way for Christ. I wonder if John and Jesus played together as children. As Elizabeth and Mary were cousins perhaps they did. There is no scripture to support this. In this Advent time, we can prepare ourselves for the coming of the savior, a truly wonderful time of the year.

Let us imagine ourselves in this scene above, hearing John’s words of the coming of a savior, listening attentively as Jesus tell us to in the Gospel today.
“Whoever has ears ought to hear.”
