DAY 44—NOTICING

clip_image002

Today I am going to notice

What’s going on

Just for an untimed moment,

To linger,

dangle in the present,

Not reflecting, just considering,

Savoring the existing,

Not moving on,

Judging,

Or reacting,

But rather

Letting it dissolve

In my mouth,

Without expectations of reward,

Attribution,

Praise,

Worthiness.

Just leaving it alone with me;

In a timeless exercise.

I will not wonder whether others are watching,

Fill my mind with expectations of how I look, or feel to others,

But purely be present,

As a human who observes,

Their surroundings,

In this Garden of Eden,

And suffering,

And most of all … love.

Today I will be Atticus Finch,

Perhaps not “climbing into their skin”

But at least noticing.

What makes someone cry,

Or smile.

Why a leaf droops in the evening shade,

And strains upwards in the mid-day sun.

Taking as many moments as it takes to notice,

And then capturing it, carefully,

Like the smell of a home-cooked meal,

Where words won’t describe,

The inner warmth

Felt by just a pure, heartfelt,

Connection.

A connection without words,

the presence of God.

DAY 42–AT ONE TABLE

Spending a life of separation,

Don’t talk about this, never mention that,

Keep this to yourself.

We are a bottling plant for feelings,

Never to be shared, or only with a certain language,

A special language,

The language of separation.

We learn these new and unnatural languages,

How to talk to a child,

Only say this to a spouse,

Certain jokes reserved for single sex company,

Interview talk,

Church speak,

Talk of love,

To be un-bottled or mixed only on special occasions.

Like confession, breakdowns, or times of pain and suffering,

When it’s OK to show our real self.

Imagine for a moment,

We are listening to St. Paul in Corinth …

For we are God’s co-workers;
you are God’s field, God’s building.”

Imagine a world he describes,

Where we are all one,

One mission, one purpose, one community, one world.

All together at the same table,

With all divisive languages dismissed.

Our selves revealed.

And all spoken or done to each other is truth;

And in Love.

No Lie Is Unexposed

You might get away with it,

but lies are like yarn;

need to be woven in order to tell their false story,

until they become a badly fitting jacket; now worn all day.

An disguise ineffective.

Book of Daniel

Daniel replied, “Your fine lie has cost you also your head,”
for the angel of God waits with a sword to cut you in two
so as to make an end of you both.”
