REFLECTION ON JONAH PREPARING THE WAY: THE DAILY GOSPEL 20 FEBRUARY 2013

In this reading, Jesus compares Himself to Jonah, offering salvation to the Ninevites if only they will hear the message. During this period of Lent, let us reflect on the offering of His salvific Mission for all to hear. We only have to listen.

REFLECTION ON JESUS GIVING US THE LORD’S PRAYER: THE DAILY GOSPEL 19 FEBUARY 2013

File:Brooklyn Museum - The Lord's Prayer (Le Pater Noster) - James Tissot.jpg

Our Lord’s Prayer is a gift from God Himself. Let us meditate on it today, phrase by phrase and see how it plays out in our lives.

Our Father,
Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

“The Lord’s Prayer “is truly the summary of the whole gospel.” “Since the Lord…after handling over the practice of prayer, said elsewhere, ‘Ask and you will receive,’ and since everyone has petitions which are peculiar to his circumstances, the regular and appropriate prayer (the Lord’s Prayer) is said first, as the foundation of further desires.”
– Tertullian, De orat.

REFLECTION ON JESUS’S GOSPEL ON HOW YOU TREATED OTHERS MT: 25-31 18 FEBRUARY 2013

Recently I received news that someone I have known well in recent years has cancer. He may not have long to live. This man has spent much of his life in prison. In these years, he has spent much time mentoring young men to bring them to a better life, a new life, through The Lord.

God operates in and through all the places that there is great suffering and human need. Now that this man is making it through the latter days of his life, let him reflect on the love that God has bestowed on him, and thank God for the close relationship he now has with Him.

We are being called to operate in all the places, even outside our comfort zone, let us answer this call in whatever way we are able this day, and not leave it for another day that is “more convenient”. We can start with the people we work with each day.
